Ann grew up in New Hampshire and now lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband and two sons. She works full time for a large food company in category insights and spends her weekends at children's parties, play-dates, and other kids activities. Ann is also an avid reader and is currently in two book clubs. She and I met back in March in Lexington, KY at Run the Bluegrass. She came by our booth again a few months later at the Flying Pig in Cincinnati. She has two Blyss Running skirts and loves "how they can easily go from a workout to the playground and has pockets large enough to hold my phone without falling out."

When and why did you start running? What’s your story?
I ran cross country and track in high school and continued to run throughout my twenties. I ran three half marathons and a full marathon before I had my first son in 2013, but stopped running for several years after that. After my friend and I both had babies in 2016, we started training for the Run the Bluegrass seven mile race in Lexington, Kentucky as a way to get back into pre-pregnancy shape. My training for that race went so well that after finishing the race in April, I ran the Flying Pig Half Marathon in Cincinnati, Ohio in May and I haven't slowed down since!
Having a race goal keeps me accountable and keeps me running. I also got a treadmill, so now I have no excuse not to get up and run before the kids even wake up in the morning. I enjoy running outside when I can, and we sometimes run as a family with a double stroller.
Favorite distance? And /or favorite race you have run?
I enjoy the challenge of training for longer distances. The half marathon is the ideal distance for me because the training does not take up my entire day. I have run Cincinnati's Flying Pig Half Marathon twice and enjoy the city's energy when its full of runners and spectators.
If you could go on a run anywhere, where would it be? Your ideal run?
I would love to run along the Pacific Northwest coastline, which is somewhere I have never been. The cooler weather and scenery sound ideal for running.
Favorite pre or post run food?
I usually run very early in the morning so I tend to run on an empty stomach, but I must have my morning cup of coffee first! After my run, I have a Gatorade and a banana or a bagel or toast with chunky peanut butter.
Do you cross train?
I strength train with free weights a few times a week. I also try to incorporate activity into my day. I always take the stairs at the office and I try to get out and walk whenever I can.
Do you use a GPS or track your mileage and if so, which one?
I use the Fitbit Charge 2 to track my heart rate and steps. I use my treadmill's display to track my mileage when I run on the treadmill and the Fitbit app when I run outside.
What have you learned/gained through running?
I realized after taking so much time off from running how important it is to make time to exercise. I use running to help manage my stress and keep me in shape.
Your next running goal?
I'm training for the Queen Bee Half Marathon in Cincinnati in October and hope to finish in under 1:55.
