When and why did you start running? What’s your story?
Four years ago I cheered for my niece who was running a marathon, as I was cheering I thought I could do this, I just have to train for it. Right away I joined an amazing running club and followed their training plan. Three years ago I finished my first half marathon in my goal time of 2 hours 30 minutes. Since then I have completed another half marathon, a sprint duathlon and a sprint triathlon.
Favorite distance? And /or favorite race you have run?
My favorite distance is a 10k because the training can be easily done. My favorite race was The Nationwide Children's Hospital half marathon because of the children champions at every mile and the tremendous community support along the route.
If you could go on a run anywhere, where would it be? Your ideal run?
My ideal run would be on a cool, dry day with no humidity!
Favorite pre or post run food?
My favorite pre run food is oatmeal with peanut butter and raisins.
Do you cross train?
I cross train at the YMCA doing strength and conditioning classes.
Do you use a GPS or track your mileage and if so, which one?
I use a Garmin vivoactive to track my runs and cardio.
What have you learned/gained through running?
I have learned that running can be any pace. I am not fast and I will never win any races, but I love the feeling of accomplishment after I am done running. I always feel better physically and emotionally after exercising. Running also helps me make healthier eating choices.
Your next running goal?
I am signed up for 2 half marathons this spring. I would love to run the Key West half marathon one day.
